The top 9 world leaders of 2012, Imran Khan at 3rd Place

It wasn't all bad, and it certainly wasn't all good, but 2012 was a big year for news makers and game changers.
From the man who won one of the tightest US presidential races in decades, to the head

of state whose tenure has been marked by bloody protests, we've rounded up the nine leaders who influenced the world the most this year — for better or for worse.

1. Christine Lagarde

The first woman to head the International Monetary Fund, Lagarde had no time to settle in before jumping into the ongoing battle that is the euro zone's debt crisis. Ranked among Forbes' most powerful people and most powerful women, the director of the 188-country-strong financial organization managed to garner an extra $430 billion in funding from G20 countries this past April, doubling the IMF's lending capacities.

In the midst of trying to put out global fiscal fires, the former lawyer and influential French politician — who was named a Chevalier in the Légion d'honneur in 2000 — also manages to raise two sons.

2. Barack Obama

President Obama won another four-year term, by a long shot, in what was nevertheless one of the tightest, toughest US election races in years. He also remained surefooted in his decision-making, despite the Romney campaign's fierce attempts to paint him as a failed leader.

"Obama, 50, showed great skill as a Commander in Chief, sending the Navy SEALs to take out Osama bin Laden and supervising an orderly departure from Iraq," wrote Time magazine's Joe Klein. "But most of all, in the roil of a difficult time, he seemed smart and steady, trustworthy. Monuments are not often built to politicians who are merely trustworthy, but they do tend to win re-election."

Time just this week named Obama its "Person of the Year."

Washington Monthly also managed to round up 50 of Obama's accomplishments ... that's more than we can say for most leaders.

3. Imran Khan

Imran Khan has made the jump from cricketer to activist-politician look seamless. Now the head of Pakistan's Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Khan has become the face of the anti-drone movement in his home country. Though data on drone-related deaths is scarce, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism estimates drones — key tools of US military strategy in the region — have caused between 474 to 884 civilian deaths since 2004, including the killings of 176 children.

Khan refuses to stand for the continued use of drones in Pakistan, leading a high-profile march by over 1,000 people in October. He continues to speak out against the violence, and his anti-drone push is a central part of his campaign for president.

4. Hillary Clinton

Touted as the most traveled secretary of state (though it depends on how you're counting, the Christian Science Monitor pointed out), Clinton has certainly clocked her fair share of overseas visits — to at least 111 countries, at last count — and dealt with a veritable bevy of international crises during her years in office.

From the ongoing bloody war in Syria, to the Sept. 11 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, to the eight-day conflict between Gaza and Israel, Clinton has risen to some thorny challenges. She also managed to earn meme notoriety (Texts from Hillary, anyone?) and reach her 10th year as Gallup poll’s most admired woman.

And no matter what her mileage, she's definitely winning in the "most requests to run for President in 2016" contest.

More from GlobalPost: Nancy Pelosi joins the list of political figures to back Hillary Clinton in 2016

5. Kim Jong Un

The new supreme leader of North Korea, aka the son of Kim Jong Il, has had quite the year in the spotlight for the head of such a reclusive state. For one thing, there was his marriage to Ri Sol Ju. Then there were all the rocket launches, mostly failed, and the ensuing international hoopla. And of course, that's not even counting the Onion nomination as "Sexiest Person of the Year" — which was taken amazingly seriously by Chinese and South Korean media.

6. Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her brave activism against widespread slaughter of protesters fighting
the oppressive rule of Myanmar's dictator U Ne Win. This year, however, marked a big shift for Suu Kyi and her political party, the National League for Democracy: The party won a majority of seats in parliamentary elections.

Suu Kyi also received accolades in the US for her work, accepting the Congressional Gold Medal — Congress's highest award for civilians — and the Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award.

We can only wonder what 2013 will bring.

7. Mohamed Morsi

The jury is still out — quite literally — on Egypt's first democratically elected leader since the ousting of Hosni Mubarak. Though he made an impressive showing after elections, he reignited furious protests in Cairo when he issued a controversial decree placing himself above the powers of the judiciary. There were also accusations that he had his opponents captured, detained, and beaten, according to The New York Times.

He also, however, proved to be a skilled political broker in the Middle East, producing a peace deal between Israel and Gaza after the two sides saw their bloodiest conflict in years.

As Egypt prepares to vote on a new constitution, which itself has sparked considerable protest and opposition, Morsi is certainly not stepping out of the limelight any time soon.

8. Hugo Chavez

Chavez added another six-year term to his almost 14 years as Venezuela's president in October, and continues to be one of Latin
America's most-watched politicians. However, his battle with cancer has only gotten more intense, and for the first time, the powerful leader has considered the possibility he may need someone to carry his torch.

The future of Venezuela remains to be seen, but Chavez's mark on the country — and the world — has certainly been made.

9. Bashar al-Assad

This year, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has been facing the greatest threat to his dictatorship since he took office in 2000, following his father's death. The embattled leader has been locked in one of the region's bloodiest clashes since the uprising against him began in March 2011. The world has stood divided over the conflict, which has left around 40,000 people dead. But the tide may be shifting. According to the Telegraph, even Russia, one of Assad's staunchest allies, has admitted that his rule may be waning.

Lindsay Lohan Wants to Keep Taking Prescription

Can someone please explain rehab to Lindsay Lohan?
The actress has one stipulation when it comes to entering a "lock down" facility for 90 days … she wants to keep using Adderall.
Sources tell TMZ that she only agreed to the plea deal of rehab instead of jail as long as she is still allowed to take the drug, which is used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, but is often abused by others looking to achieve a high similar to cocaine.
[Related: Hollywood's Biggest Fools]
Last May, her outspoken father Michael Lohan blasted her prescription pill use, which was revealed in court documents to include anti-depressants Zoloft and Trazodone, Adderall, and the super-strength painkiller Dilaudid for her previous dental issues. "The meds that they give her are meds that they say she needs, but she doesn't need them," Michael said at the time. "They kind of make her flat. She's not acting at a full potential. It's like the screen is down over her."
Although Lohan's rep did not respond to omg!'s request for comment about the Adderall, her attorney Mark Jay Heller is insisting her usage of the prescription drug was never discussed with the prosecutors. "Prosecutors or the court would never interject themselves into medical determinations," he told the New York Daily News. "Patients traditionally apprise facilities of what medications, if any, they're prescribed, and after a full series of medical evaluations, each facility determines what medications, if any, are going to be allowed. This is never dictated by the patient. It's always determined by medical staff who are well qualified."
Adderall or not, Lohan's upcoming rehab stay is already complicated. Although the judge ordered her to a "lock down" facility, she wants to get treatment in New York City, but that reportedly doesn't exist in the state. TMZ also reports that prosecutors in her case are determining what their next move will be … will she go to a regular rehab or serve those 90 days behind bars?

Until then, she is getting the partying out of her system. Since last week, the 26-year-old has been in Brazil to promote the clothing line John John Denim. As omg! reported, she partied at a nightclub in Sao Paulo as part of her $100,000 deal … but was later photographed hiding under a table so she wouldn't have to sign autographs for fans.

Scam Alert: Fake Samsung Galaxy S4 Giveaway on Facebook

Have you seen your friends liking and sharing a post on Facebook promising to give away a Samsung Galaxy S4? Today we’ll take a closer look at this post and others like it.
It’s a hoax.
Samsung would not set up a separate page to give away their products on Facebook, and if they did, it stands to reason that they would mention it elsewhere online. Let’s take a look at one post with thousands of shares:
We are giving away 5000 Samsung Galaxy S4 to 5000 Lucky Fans for FREE. All that you need to do is complete the easy steps below to participate! (Worldwide)
1. Like => Samsung Galaxy S4

The lucky winners will be selected in 24 hours but will get their gifts at 15 March. Only people that have completed all steps can participate. Winners will be announced at our Facebook fan page or in private message so make sure you like us on Facebook.
Good luck!
This is very similar to the fake Apple giveaways that have been rampant on Facebook over the past couple of months.

Multiple pages are sharing same post

http://www.facebook.com/SamsungGalaxyS4FanPage
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Samsung-Galaxy-S4/462190077185140

 Consider
  • Bad grammar. This page’s “about” reads: “GIVING Samsung Galaxy S4 on March 14,2013.”
  • Recently created. The page was only created about a day before we are writing this article.
  • Not Samsung. Samsung’s actual Facebook page does not mention such a giveaway.
  • Familiar. The wording and steps are almost identical to the fake Apple giveaways we’ve discussed here.
  • Multiple pages. You can find several pages with the same wording and same photo. Why would Samsung create multiple copies of similar pages? They wouldn’t.

What’s the point?

There are several reasons why these fake giveaways keep popping up. In some cases, they link to scam “rewards” programs in which consumers must sign up for all sorts of things they don’t want.

Justin Bieber's Birthday Drama Was Caused By Jaden Smith

Our heart really goes out to Justin Bieber for having what he described via Twitter to be the "worst birthday," after he and his entourage were forced to leave the London nightclub where he was celebrating his 19th year following a confrontation with security guards!
However, if there's any solace he can take from the unfortunate situation, it's that he should be PROUD of himself for being a good friend…because come to find out, all the drama that went down was for his buddy Jaden Smith!
According to new reports, the 14-year-old son of Will and Jada arrived to celebrate shortly after the rest of Biebs' crew, but would not be allowed in due to his age!
So after attempting in vain to get his pal through the doors, Justin apparently didn't feel it was right to keep the party going, so instead decided to call everything off and head back back to his hotel with his pal and some fast food from McDonald's!
Awww!
It's unfortunate that arrangements weren't made with the venue to accommodate guests of all ages, but how Justin handled it all really says so much about his character!
Very mature, boy! And you're only just freshly 19!
Thanks for being such a good pal to Jaden! We're sure it meant the world to him!

India's cruise missile Nirbhay's maiden test fails

India's cruise missile Nirbhay's maiden test fails

Early today India's trial of its first indigenous cruise missile Nirbhay had to be terminated halfway today, when the missile deviated from its course about 20 minutes after launch.

As the missile went off its flight trajectory, its engine was cut off to bring it down to ensure coastal safety. It fell near the coast; the Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO said no one was injured.

The test failed, but the DRDO, which has developed the missile, said the mission was successful. "The long range cruise missile Nirbhay was successfully launched today at 1150 hours from launch complex, Chandipur, Odisha,  meeting the basic mission objectives successfully. After travelling approximately mid-way, deviations were observed from its intended course. Further, flight was terminated to ensure coastal safety," it said in a statement.

Breast cancer rising in young women

Diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer in women younger than 40 has increased 2% a year, every year, from 1976 to 2009, according to a study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The increase was seen in women aged 25 to 39 of all races and ethnicities, living in both rural and urban areas in the United States.

It's a devastating diagnosis, particularly because a woman younger than 40 who is diagnosed with breast cancer is more likely to have an aggressive form of the disease and face lower survival rates.

But for perspective, the overall population of women who are affected still remains small.

"If you project these data out to the number of people in the U.S., there were about 250 cases per year ... in 1976 and that's now risen to 850 cases of breast cancer per year," said Dr. Rebecca Johnson, the study's lead author and medical director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology program at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Those numbers, she says, refer to metastatic breast cancer in women younger than 40. The rise, she says, was "really concerning."

Johnson is a breast cancer survivor. She found a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with the disease when she was 27. It was not metastatic.

In previous research, she found that a woman younger than 40 had a 1 in 173 chance of developing breast cancer. For this study, she wanted to look specifically at advanced breast cancer within that same population.

"Along with my colleague, Dr. Archie Bleyer, a couple of years ago, we just wanted to ask the question, how common is this? Because once I was diagnosed, I had friends and friends of friends getting diagnosed and I didn't know if this was happening more or if I was hearing about it more," she says.

Johnson and her team used three U.S. Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) databases of the National Cancer Institute to obtain data about breast cancer incidence from 1973 to 2009, 1992 to 2009, and 2000 to 2009. They chose 1976 as their starting year.

Not only did they find an increase in incidence of metastatic breast cancer in women younger than 40, the team also calculated that the average age of diagnosis was 34.3 years of age in women aged 25 to 39.

"From a cancer point of view, it is an important study because it suggests an early signal that there's a significant increase, a sustained increase over a prolonged period of time," said Dr. Len Lichtenfeld, deputy chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society, who was not affiliated with the study.

"There's a suggestion this rate is accelerating and it could have a much greater impact so it's important we ... continue to monitor this, we try to understand what its influences are."

There is no solid explanation for what's driving the increased incidence, but Johnson and her team suggest there's likely more than one cause.

Yet neither she or Lichtenfeld believe the study's findings should change current screening guidelines for breast cancer.

"If there is an action item, at this time it's awareness: Breast cancer can happen (in younger women) and if it gets to be metastatic by the time it's diagnosed, that's a problem," said Johnson.

Yet while the rate of breast cancer incidence in young women has increased, Johnson and her team found that mortality rates over the last 30 years have been stable.

"It's great, except it's not great - the five-year survival rate used to be 15%, and now it's 30%. So that's something to be thankful for, but it's still very bad," she said.

"If women could be diagnosed earlier (before the cancer spreads), then each individual woman that that happens to stands to do a whole lot better, stands a better chance of living."

Lichtenfeld agreed. "This study reinforced the message, know your body better than anyone else does," he said.

"If there is a lump on the breast ... swelling in the breast, discharge from the nipple, redness in the skin of the breast, or unexplained pain in the breast, see your doctor."

USD/JPY Fundamental Analysis February 28, 2013 Forecast

 USD/JPY Fundamental Analysis February 28, 2013 Forecast

The USD/JPY is trading at 91.97 as the JPY gained momentum on a weaker US dollar. Two separate incidents caused market reaction yesterday. The Italian election continues to disturb traders and bring the eurozone crisis back to the forefront with Silvio Berlusconi coming close to the power seat. Traders also reacted to the defensive testimony by Mr. Bernanke, who assured US politicians that the asset programs were not causing inflation or an asset bubble. Traders took these comments to mean that the Fed would continue its stimulus program, which weighed heavily on the US dollar.
The Bank of Japan may see more stimlus and new programs under Haruhiko Kuroda, an opponent of deflation who ran the nation’s currency policy and then built an international reputation leading the Asian Development Bank. Finance Minister Taro Aso told reporters Monday that Kuroda, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s pick as BOJ governor will work closely with the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.

EUR/JPY Forecast for February 28, 2013

EUR/JPY Forecast for February 28, 2013

Analysis and Recommendations:

The EUR/JPY is trading at 120.21 recovering 7 pips this morning as traders took advantage of weak prices to buy up the euro. Currency speculators ran back to the yen, which is seen as a safe-haven currency, particularly versus the euro after news about the outcome of the Italian election.
The center-left coalition, vowing to continue Prime Minister Mario Monti’s austerity measures, won a majority of seats in the lower chamber of parliament, but the center-right coalition led by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, which opposes austerity measures, fared well in the Senate, leaving no bloc in control of the chamber. The election results gave rise to worries that the debt-laden country’s fiscal reconstruction efforts will stall.
Gold rebounded while the US dollar dipped after testimony from Mr. Bernanke seemed to indicate that the Fed would continue to offer stimulus. Traders pushed up gold but also sought the JPY as the favored safe haven.

Philippine troops captured something like a giant bat

Philippine troops captured something that appears like a giant bat

Philippine troops captured something that appears like a giant bat, and even look at him creates a massive horror, especially for those who had the chance to see it fly across the sky........
It is a mythical beast “Chupacabra”, which feeds on the blood of animals, at least that is what myths and legends say. Scientific explanation is very simple: it is a flying fox (Pteropus), a type of megabats.
